Dr. Brenda Major honored for 40 years of work on the effects of stigma and discrimination on identity

Dr. Major among four UCSB professors to be admitted to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, an honor shared with previous fellows such as George Washington and Benjamin Franklin. 

Society for Personality and Social Psychology interviews Dr. Brenda Major about her research, career path and some it's ups and downs. 

Dr. Major was granted fellowship to the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) for her contributions to social psychology including her incredible contributions to understanding the effects of stigma and discrimination.

New research conducted by PhD candidate Jeffrey Hunger under the supervision of Dr. Brenda Major suggests that BMI is an inaccurate measure of health.

First given in 1980, the award recognizes “distinguished scholarly achievement and ongoing sustained excellence in research in social psychology.”

Dr. Major received the Scientific Impact Award alongside Jennifer Crocker for their article "Social Stigma and self-esteem: The Self-protective properties of stigma."

Dr. Major is awarded the 2014 Heritage Award from the Foundation for Personality and Social Psychology for major contributions to the field of Social Psychology.
